Christianity Matters

A book on Christianity, edited by Dr Kevin Donnelly, has just been released. While acknowledging its flaws there is much about Christianity that underpins and enriches our way of life and that must be valued and acknowledged.

In an increasingly secular and materialistic world the argument is put Christianity is of little, if any, significance or relevance. While acknowledging Christianity’s sins and flaws it is also vital to acknowledge and value the significant and ongoing strengths and benefits of Christianity. In Western societies like Australia Christianity underpins and safeguards our political and legal systems, contributes much in areas like health, education, welfare and literature, music and the arts. The New Testament, in particular, is responsible for concepts like the inherent dignity of the person, the right to liberty and freedom as well as concepts like social justice and a commitment to the common good.
